Wondrous Things From God

Open Thou mine eyes that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy law. Psalm 119:18
For the past few weeks I have been trying, with the help of the Lord, to share truths that will help us in these last days. I think that we all realize that things are happening fast and that our time on earth is short.

Matthew 24 talks about the conditions before Christ’s return: "Because lawlessness will abound the love of many will grow cold."
Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition. II Thessalonians 2:1-3
I believe we are in the falling away time and we are going to need the greatest help we can find and that is in the Word. So, again today, I would like to share with you some truths that I feel that the Lord has laid on my heart to help build us up spiritually for whatever comes.

The Psalmist had a spiritual base by which he could ask God to open our eyes.

Verses 1 and 2 give us the foundation for this prayer. He refers to the blessed, that is to say happy, person.
Blessed are the blameless, Who WALK in the Word. Psalm 119:1
Having received the Lord Jesus as our Saviour we must began living a life to the best of our knowledge to please Him.
They do no iniquity; They walk in His ways. Psalm 119:3
Some of you may remember that I have shared with you from Paul’s writings in the book of Ephesians five spiritual walks. Let me share them again.
  1. "Walk worthy of the calling with which you were called." Ephesians 4:1
  2. "Walk not as the Gentiles walk." Ephesians 4:17
  3. "Walk in love." Ephesians 5:2
  4. "Walk as children as light." Ephesians 5:8
  5. "Walk circumspectly not as fools." Ephesians 5:15
Blessed are those who keep His testimonies (words). Psalm 119:2
This speaks of both the outspokenness and the dependability of the word of God.

To keep the words of God is to live by the words of God.
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. Deuteronomy 6: 6-9
Look at some of the key words in this passage:
  • "...these words shall be in thine heart..."
  • "...teach them diligently..."
  • "...talk of them..."
  • "...bind them... upon thine hand..." (Hold onto them.)
  • "...they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes."
Now when I came to the word "frontlets" I was stumped . (I know you are smarter then me, you already knew what it means but I had to do research on this word)

From Zondervan Encyclopedia of the Bible: "In Deuteronomy Moses told the Israelites that the law was to have a very important place in their lives. They were to bind it upon the hand and have it as frontlets between their eyes. It appears that the Jews would write four passages of the law on small bits of parchment, which they enclosed in little boxes, which were worn, bound on the arm and the brow, at morning prayer."

The four passages were:
  1. Exodus 13:1-10
  2. Exodus 13:11- 16
  3. Deuteronomy 6:4-9
  4. Deuteronomy 11:13-21
I will not take time to read them for you but in every passage it says that they were to do it for their children. How important it is today for our children and grandchildren to hear and see us living the word of God.
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Psalm 119:9-11
It does no good to read the word if we don’t live in it!
Blessed are those who SEEK his Word. Psalm 119:2
To seek is to ask or to pursue diligently; to make inquisition; to search after.
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
In Southern Arkansas there is a public diamond mine. People from all over the country go there to look for diamonds. Some camp days there looking for that elusive big shiny diamond. Because sometimes diamonds are found people keep going back. They go in all kinds of weather: hot sunshine, cold, rain that turns into mud. But they still hunt. They are seeking treasure.
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Matthew 7:7
If we ever want to get close to God we will do so by seeking out great truths about Him from the word of God that has been given to us by God.
If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: Ephesians 3:2-6
And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God. Ephesians 3:9-10
That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. Ephesians 3:16-20
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. I Corinthians 2:9-16
How can we ever know the deep truths of God unless we seek for them? If you dig in God's diamond mine you will find truths to help you in these last days.

Dwelling in the word will produce praise to God.
When I look into all your commandments. I will praise you with uprightness of heart. Psalm 119:6-7
In verse 12 the Psalmist show us how to praise God. "Blessed are you, O Lord."

In verses 1 and 2 the word blessed means "happy" but here in verse 12 the word blessed means "to kneel down before in adoration." There is no better way to praise God than to do what he asks of us.
With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches. I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word. Psalm 119:13-16
Do you catch what he is saying he would do? "I will declare , I will rejoice, I will delight, I will not forget!" Now that is praise! Think about what he is saying. It isn’t all about what God will show us from His Word but also about what we will do with truth when He shows us.

How many "I will’s" can you give to God in praise?

The Psalmist ends this lesson with a prayer. In fact the rest of this Psalm is a prayer but we only look at a few verses.
Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live, and keep thy word. Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. Psalm 119:17-18
Teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end. Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart. Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight. Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness. Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way. Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear. Turn away my reproach which I fear: for thy judgments are good. Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness. Psalm 119:33-40
In order for us to find the deep truths we need to pray that God would open our eyes to the wondrous things that he has for us.

How much are you going to need God in these last days? We all agree that we are going to need all the help of God that we can get, to be able to live through the storm that is upon us. The spiritual, physical, economical and mental storms will not get any less until Jesus comes and sets things in order for us. He gives us all the help we need to get through any Storm. All we need is to apply ourselves to His word to get it.

Isn’t it time that we get serious about reading and living God’s Word?

We have a choice to make. What’s most important in your life?

Let's make the song by C.P. Jones our prayer:

Deeper, Deeper,
In the love of Jesus
Daily let me go;
Higher, Higher
in the school of wisdom,
More of grace to know.

Deeper, Deeper!
Blessed Holy Spirit,
Take me deeper still.
Till my life is wholly lost in Jesus
and His perfect will.

Deeper, Deeper!
Tho’ it cost hard trials,
Deeper let me go!
Rooted in the holy love of Jesus,
Let me fruitful grow.

Deeper, Higher,
Every day in Jesus,
Till all conflict past.
Finds me conqu’ror,
and in His own image
Perfected at last.
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Ephesians 6: 10-18
Amen!
