Thanksgiving Thoughts

The story is told of a shipwreck within the sight of land. Many had succeeded in getting into the lifeboats. But, for some unexplained reason, there were not enough life jackets to go round, and not enough room in the lifeboats for all. Many were thrown into the water without much hope.

A young man on the shore who saw the danger made several trips to the sinking ship to rescue some that could not swim. His gallant effort caused him permanent physical damage. He was never able to regain his normal health back.

Many years passed by and someone was talking with him about the shipwreck. In the conversation the question was asked, "How many of the people you saved ever came to thank you?" His answer was, "Not one."

It was Henry Ward Beecher that said, "If one should give me a dish of sand, and tell me there were particles of iron in it, I might look for them with my eyes, and search for them with my clumsy fingers, and be unable to detect them; but let me take a magnet and sweep through it, and how would it draw to itself the almost invisible particles by the mere power of attraction. The unthankful heart, like my finger in the sand, discovers no mercies; but let the thankful heart sweep through the day, and as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings, only the iron in God's sand is gold."

Count your blessings.
Name them one by one,
And it will surprise you
What the Lord has done.

As we approach the Thanksgiving Season let's take some time to be truly thankful.
